new to the store… POSTERS

by admin on Dec.05, 2009, under comix, illustration, store

Hey all, I just added the 8 posters that I’ve had for sale at conventions and trade shows to the store tooth on the left. Each is 11″x17″ (or slightly larger in the case of the Feral pin-up), printed on 100lb gloss card stock and suitable for framing and a steal at 20$ plus shipping.

Check ‘em out!

BMs for Instigator

by admin on Nov.24, 2009, under illustration

I just finished this piece for Thorn over at INSTIGATOR to be popped into an interview with Brad McGuire and his BF. It was fun to do so… there was a time when Brad was my favorite porn star :)

Anyways look for it in the next issue of that mag.

Cheers, droogies.

shop obake sign

So it’s been nearly 1 month since I took over this place, and I love it. So much room! I’ve gotten the new biz cards, stickers… I’ll be making tees soon. I am setting up part of the shop to sell comics and art prints as well. As soon as it is all together, I suppose a grand opening is in order. Check out the changes to the website too, my droogies!

Dog Portrait

by admin on Apr.07, 2009, under illustration

This is a portrait of Luke, my friend Dean’s dog. Dean and I were roommates for about 3 years, and Dean adopted Luke weeks after moving into the house in Echo Park. I always wanted to paint his portrait, and I did so for Dean’s birthday last year. Personally, I think it is the best portrait I have done.

for OUT magazine

hot list

This was a 2 page spread for OUT magazine, for a “hot list” of what was H O T (at the time). I like the piece, but conceptually a nightmare. The art director wanted a “summer fun” scene in hell, and specifically wanted a devil evocative of my character the Grey Otter. The piece originally had this devil driving the dune buggy, and the surfer on the wave of flame was a devil as well. The magazine editor saw the original sketch and freaked out; the magazine in no way wanted to appear to promote Satan. So, demonic reference was erased, and there we have the piece as it is now, which makes little sense.
I still like it though. I rarely do a piece only in illustrator these days.
BTW, the devil sign (being made by the passenger in the buggy) slipped past the editor :)

The following piece I did for instigator magazine. I did some work I am really proud of for that magazine, but to say work with them was a nightmare would be an understatement. I’ll get into it more in another post.

This piece accompanied an article about an Afghani warlord on trial. Many witnesses testifying against him made mention of the “human attack dog” the warlord kept in a hole in the ground. True story.

And then, on the third try, dogspunk said “lo, let there be a blog integrated into my actual website, and not a separate entity, so that the masses my get the word from one press” and all was good.
